Servanthood II

By Reverend Dolapo Olunuga

Bible Text: “Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself … When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human… an incredibly humbling process.” Philippians 2:5-8

Philippians 2:5 – “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”.

Even Jesus did not hold His authority over God.

John 1:5 – Jesus was there from the beginning with God but still had a mindset of servanthood.

Numbers 14:24 – Caleb also had the same mindset.

The Mindset of a Servant

Forget yourself, empty yourself, go out of your way to help others

Stewardship and not ownership, James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift is from above. Do not withhold God’s resources. Lift somebody else up, be a blessing. People tend to be sensitive when it comes to money. Money represents your time, strength, talents, and resources

Competition, 2 Corinthians 10:12, don’t compare yourself with your neighbor. Our standard is Christ.

Luke 10:41-42 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Identity in Christ, only secure people can serve Christ. If you lose earthly things: money, a job, titles, etc., You Are still secure in Christ. If you don’t settle your identity, you will never be able to serve wholeheartedly.

1 Samuel 13:6, our identity is in Christ, you don’t have to prove yourself and you are free to serve

1 Peter 2:9, “You Are a Chosen Generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people

Exodus 19:6, God has selected and elected us, “a kingdom of priests and a holy nation”

A real servant sees service as an opportunity and not an obligation. When it’s an obligation, you only look at the bottom line and what is in it for you.

Real ministry and service look for ways to transform lives.
