Serving God by Serving People 2.0

By Reverend Dolapo Olunuga

Bible Text: “But he is who is greatest among you shall be your servant.” Matthew 23:11

Service is God using humanity to meet the needs of people

Matthew 23:11 – “But he is who is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

Here, Jesus is rewriting the script. If you want to be the greatest, you have to serve.

This is not so in this current generation. The goal is to be top-dog and not a servant.

Service is the way to honor God. He that is to be most-esteemed is to be the most diligent in service.

Service is not dependent on your status in life. Service should be done in spite of that.

After all, Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. In Bible days, the feet were not the most sanitary due to the dust, sand, etc.

When it comes to service, we must think outside of the box. We must understand why things are done in a certain way and if we can change our approach.

We can re-invent the way we approach service and step outside of our comfort zone.

If you want to be at the top, start from the bottom.

1 Peter 4:10 – “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Life should have a bigger purpose, one that is beyond yourself.

Use your gift and talents to give to others.

The Bible tells us that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Hebrews 6:10 – “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

We must challenge ourselves to think outside of the box on ways in which we can serve people.
