Stay Focused on Jesus Christ

Reverend Oludolapo Olunuga

Bible Text: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

We have lost our focus in the church. Christians have made church about superficial things.

Matthew 6:33 – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Hebrews 12:1-2Vs. 2 – “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith”

We must make Christ our focus. He is the model we are to follow

(1) What consumes your mind controls your life

Proverbs 23:7 – As a man thinks in His heart, so is He.

When we think on the things of God, our hearts will be in tune with Christ.

Matthew 11:28 – “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Case Study – Mary and Martha

Luke 10:38

Vs. 40 – “But Martha was distracted with much serving…”

Martha believed that Jesus would tell Mary to get up and help her in the kitchen. But Jesus had a different take on this.

Vs. 42 – “One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it – it’s the main course,  and won’t be taken from her.”

(2) When our focus is on the problem, rather than Jesus

The disciples were focused more on the problem – Matthew 14:13

“This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages…”

The disciples were not ready to cater to the multitude. But, again, Jesus had a different take on this.

Vs. 16 – “But Jesus said to them, ‘They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.’”

God wants us to bring our problems to Him. Don’t just assume that He knows. The Word tell us to “draw near unto Him and He will draw near unto us.

We have been given dominion over the works of the hand of God but unfortunately, we sold our birthright to the devil.

Prayer is partnering with God in the affairs of man.

(3) When our focus is on Jesus even in the storm; He will lead You through the storm. When we take our focus from Jesus, our problems seem to big.

Matthew 14:22-2 – Even in the storm, Jesus showed the disciples that He was still in control.

What is causing you to be afraid? What is giving you sleepless nights?
